This photo was taken in 1939 (Showa 14) during a family trip to Unzen. The image showing the townscape captures Shimabara as seen from the site of Moritake Castle (the ruins of Shimabara Castle).
Pre-atomic bombing (exact date unknown) – Taken at Matsushima Photo Studio in the Shindaiku area. The writing on the photo reads “Shindaiku Women's Unit.” The photo studio still exists today under the name “Matsushima Studio.”
